DSW's experience in international project
work over the past years has shown that the establishment of
a few but clearly-focused country-wide programmes can be more
effective than maintaining multiple projects in various countries.
Thus, in order to provide the best possible supervision and also
to increase their effectiveness, projects were increasingly integrated
into country programmes focusing more intensely on DSW's
core activities.
A geographical emphasis was put on East Africa,
facing a great need for adolescent sexual and reproductive
health information
and services at a high population growth rate. Within the region,
country-wide Y2Y programmes currently span Ethiopia, Kenya,
Uganda and Tanzania. A presence in each of the countries ensures
further
that the Y2Y programme is effectively co-ordinated and local
partner organisations are actively supported.
